Jesus’ famous parable of the sower is rightly renamed the parable of the soils by many, with the story’s focus on how the seeds develop on the different types of soil, not on the person that plants them. In this passage we see Jesus respond to the question of why people seem to react in such varied ways to him. Some say he’s possessed by a demon. Some adore him. Some believe he’s crazy. Some give up their livelihood to follow and learn from him. Why did people react so differently to Jesus in the gospels? And why do people still respond differently to him? Listen to this exposition of Mark 4:1-20 to find out!
